In the climactic final scene of The Mystery of The Well Keeper, the camera captures James Dean as he calmly checks out from The Mizpah Hotel. As he makes his way through the lobby, he unexpectedly crosses paths with a bright, young evangelist who is just arriving, setting the stage for an intriguing encounter between two very different characters.

In “The Mystery of The Well Keeper,” James Dean opens up to Detective Mahoney about losing his mother at age nine. His grieving father sent him to live with his grandparents in Indiana, where he stayed until graduating high school and returning to California. Despite his success, he acknowledges the lasting impact of this childhood loss.

James also expresses his longing for genuine community—people to share his life with beyond those who only seek to take advantage of him.

The Mystery of The Well Keeper, written and directed by Pastor Kevin L Lane, is a whodunit murder mystery set in the Mizpah Hotel in Tonopah, Nevada, on Christmas Eve in 1955. The hotel is hosting a unique gathering of family, friends, and a few well-known celebrities from across the country to bid on the original manuscript of the bestselling children’s book, The Legend of The Well Keeper.

As the guests arrive, the atmosphere is electric, as this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of literary history has brought together a diverse group of individuals, all sharing the same passion for literature and the written word. But amidst the Christmas spirit, there is a mystery to be solved and as the night wears on, secrets are revealed, and the guests’ lives become intertwined in ways they never thought possible.
